What is Authenticated SMTP (ASMTP) ? |
Definition of SMTP: Short for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, a protocol used for sending e-mail messages between servers. SMTP is generally used to send messages from a mail client to a mail server. This is why you need to specify both the POP server and the SMTP server when you configure your e-mail application. Authenticated SMTP (ASMTP) provides greater security when sending e-mail to your server.
A = Authenticated SMTP (ASMTP) sends your e-mail using your full username (e-mail address) and password. This means that you then become a "trusted" e-mail sender, having identified yourself.
